Video: Magic Touch // “I Can Feel The Heat”.

This video comes via Altered Zones. Damon Palermo is the mind behind Magic Touch. His beats are infectious, and his reputation is rhythm. This video is a special one. Directed by Donuts’ Kat Matutina, it is visually addicting, and filmed entirely impromptu. The footage is from last month’s Beat Electric Dance Party, which was a super fun and sweaty night. Damon is a sweet friend who has even contributed to our little blog. Make sure to pick up the vinyl for this mega jammer at 100% Silk. Also, check out the mix Damon made for us back in April.

Be part of the Beat Electric Dance Show this Saturday (7/23) at the Mezzanine.

Almost three years ago I was putting together a playlist for a party my housemates were throwing. The feel was mainly italo, disco, and boogie. At some point I felt like I had hit a ceiling in the songs to choose from. I asked my friend Jonah Paul if he had any suggestions for music sources. He linked me to an amazing site that uploads high quality mp3 rips of rare and precious vinyl. That site was Beat Electric. It’s there where I found my treasure for the night: Prophet - “Right On Time” – a mid 80s boogie synth jam that hails from San Francisco. As time went on, I came to realize that Beat Electric is not only a blog, but also a party production mogul.

Beat Electric is throwing its second dance show, this time in conjunction with Donuts! They plan to pack the Mezzanine with the city’s best dancers and musical acts, and film it all. The acts they’re bringing are top notch: Corrine, Tres Lingerie, Hot Tub, & Magic Touch (added 7/18). DJs include BT Magnum, Pickpocket, Le Baron, & Black Shag. All hosted by SF’s Jiharri T. This Saturday (7/23) at the Mezzanine, 9PM with a $10 suggested donation. Facebook RSVP & Deets.

The Everything Donut: Nite Jewel (DJ set), Shock (live), 2 Men Will Move You (DJ), and DJ Pickpocket this Saturday (5/22) at Public Works, 9PM.

Everything bagels are great, but more exciting is that San Francisco’s DJ Pickpocket may have gathered all the perfect ingredients to sprinkle on this Donuts Party. It’s the after party for Nite Jewel’s sold out show at the Great American Music Hall, and if you’re doing both, think about this party as dessert. The night will include a special performance by Shock, who if you don’t remember performed last April at the Night Fog Reader show we organized at Kitsch Gallery, they’re great so don’t miss them. Also DJing are local favorites Jordan and Primo, who are 2 Men Will Move You. They spin some of the best rare and sexy disco around. As always, resident Donuts DJ Pickpocket will bring the fun.

DONUTS! brings the sugar high back to Public Works this Saturday (4/30).

Anyone who went to that last DONUTS! party will tell you how awesome it was. I know because I missed it, and then everyone rubbed it in my face. This time, nothing is going to stand in my way because my FOMO (fear of missing out) is kicking in fully.

This Saturday, DONUTS! comes back with Brooklyn’s Blondes. These two dudes (Sam Haar and Zach Steinman) make fun and housy electronic music. Their EP, Touched (Merok Records) blew them up last year. Since then, they’ve been touring with Simian Mobile Disco and the Juan Maclean. The new 12” Lover/Hate now out RVNG Intl. takes these guys to a different level (video below).

Also, be excited for San Francisco’s Wav Dwgs – one part Eat Tapes (Greg Zifcak) and one part Party Effects (Andre Ferreira), some call it “chill-rave” others call it “lo-fi house” – whatever it is, it’s fun. Ryan Merry’s Ghosts on Tape also play. DJs Pickpocket and Ash Williams will keep you moving.

Deets: Saturday, (4/30) in the upstairs loft of Public Works, 161 Erie St., $10//$5discount tix before 10PM, 21+, FB Page
