Video: Ganglians // “That’s What I Want” (via Into The Woods).

Loving this boat top party video. Into The Woods say:

“The afternoon passes quickly. Ganglians feel like oldies as played in 2050, an FM broadcast transmitted on the inaugural afternoon of a three-day weekend. Like I said before, they couldn’t be more fitting for the day. And, moreover, they seem to perfectly capture the sonic ethos of the moment: big harmonies, catchy pop structures, open and simplistic guitar melodies.”

Digging it.

Song: Fine Steps // “Tomorrow for All of Today”.

Back in May, the Fine Steps were recording some tracks at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco. I hadn’t seen some of these dudes in months since they’re pretty occupied with other bands: guitarist Kyle Hoover and bassist Alex Sowles also play in Ganglians, Dylan plays in GGreen, and front-man Julian Elorduy is the former drummer of the monster band known as The Mayyors. Yes, a Sacramento power group. The studio sessions took me back - I had no idea Alex could play bass! I’ve been describing it like this: “It’s as if The Mantles and Ganglians had a baritone voiced love child.” Hope you enjoy it, and look forward to some more amazing Fine Steps tracks - I’ve heard a few, they’re pretty dope!

Video: Ganglians // “Bradley”.

Bradley” might be the most graceful yet jangly song off the Ganglians’ new LP Still Living (available now via Lefse Records). Directed by Jamie Harley (who has also directed videos for How To Dress Well, Memory House, and Twin Shadow), this video takes you to an intimate place of stripped ego, and heartfelt wanting. Hope you feel what I feel.

Ganglians are on a European tour for the next five weeks. They just did an interview on the BBC, check it out here.

Ganglians // Sleep

Stereogum premiered the Ganglians’ second released track off the forthcoming album Still Living (08/23 via Lefse Records). It’s with “Sleep” where you can definitely hear the added touches and contributions of producer Robby Moncrieff (Raleigh Moncrief). Moncrieff’s overall fidelity maintains the Ganglians’ weirdness, while singer Ryan Grubbs upped the Ganglians’ sound with keyboard textures, samples of bottle rockets launching, and plenty of “waves of analog” - this track definitely has a playful and rebellious feel. What’s next for the Ganglians? Maybe some tour dates?

We have a logo now, so we’re celebrating with a launch party.

Night Fog Reader went public in March. Since then, we’ve been lucky enough to post mixes from some of our favorite local musicians (Dominant Legs, Nick Waterhouse, Melted Toys, and Damon of Mi Ami/Jonas Reinhardt), we’ve written up some awesome local shows, posted exclusive tracks, and some local gossip/stories. The response has been surprising, and we feel super grateful! But all this time had gone by and we’ve never had a logo. Well, that’s changed (designer credit: Zachary Maricondia) and now we want to celebrate with an official launch!

We’ve asked a few of our friends to help us out. Performing live will be…

BOYZ IV MEN

The garage-key electro trio that blasts dance jams using Casio/Korg keyboards, drums and samplers – nope, no laptops in this rig. They just recorded some new material with Phil Manley (Trans AM/The Fucking Champs/Jonas Reinhardt), and are gearing up for some big things this year. Check out their latest track.

and..

PAMELA

It’ll be Pamela’s third show ever! Night Fog Reader first caught wind of Pamela when she performed with Will Ivy and California Sunshine at the Knockout a few weeks back. She’s out in New York right now and playing at Bruar Falls this Friday (5/24). Don’t worry, we know her flight will be back for this show. She’s on first, so get there early!

Video: Ganglians // “Jungle”.

Ganglians’ new video for “Jungle” shows us an alternate universe where a bizarro alien monster version of the band exists. Mental parallels too? Possibly. They’re also into pizza, aliens, and strolling. The layers of VHS overdub and set design take me back to 1990’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Directed by Pete Dee of UK-based Graffiti Island and Polly Philp, the video also features members of Mazes, Male Bonding, Graffiti Island and The Fair Ohs. “Jungle” is the single off the Ganglians forthcoming double LP Still Living (Lefse Records/Souterrain Transmissions) due 8/23/11.

“Jungle” is the new single off the Ganglians forthcoming LP Still Living (Lefse Records) due 8/23/11. The sound is still psych-pop, but perhaps with a more refined weirdness. Still Living was recorded with Robby Moncrieff (who recorded Dirty Projectors’ Bitte Orca) at The Hanger Studios in Sacramento. Singer/guitarist Ryan Grubbs is now a resident of San Francisco, so it’s likely you’ll be hearing more from the Ganglians.

First 50 orders receive a limited cassette of the album, so pre-order this pup.
