Round up your cans of food, and get ready to party on Saturday, Nov 19th.
We’re having another party, this time on the El Rio patio! Headlining are our friends Melted Toys who put out a record earlier this year on Underwater Peoples - the trio are currently working on new material with producer Chet ‘JR’ White (Girls). The dudes in PreTeen are down for the cause, our homie Zane (TINT) is going to treat us some vibey jams, and we’re stoked for french import: La Feline. Primo from Oldies is DJing, Indie Mart will have some booths, and maybe some surprises! Also, if you bring a can of food, you’ll get discount at the door — that’s to benefit the Dolores Shelter Program!

About Dolores Shelter Program:
The Dolores Shelter Program (DSP) began in 1982 as a sanctuary for refugees. Today, DSP provides support and emergency housing for up to 85 working homeless men every night.
DSP is the only shelter for men in the area, and our programs are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the Latino working homeless. Our goal is to prevent newly-arrived immigrants from falling into the cycle of homelessness. Our guests can stay at DSP for 120 days, and we provide them with assistance to find permanent housing.
We provide hot meals every night to our shelter guests, and we maintain pantries at each shelter, as well as our community center office. We can use canned or packaged foods that are instant or microwaveable, as well as low sodium and vegetarian choices.

The summer 7-inch: Melted Toys/Dominant Legs split.
Two of San Francisco’s best, two french labels, and a whole lot of buzz is going to make this record a hot commodity - oh, and there are only 300 copies! It’s out today, so be sure to get your hands on it. The songs are catchy, and hold true to both band’s EPs. Now this release begs the question - full length LPs soon?!
If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the mixes Ryan Lynch (Dominant Legs), and Steven Harkins (Melted Toys) made for Night Fog Reader.

San Francisco’s Terry Malts like to keep it vague. They are the local mystery band made up of members of another SF band. This Thursday (6/2) they’re having a record release party for their “i’m neurotic” 7” (Slumberland Records) with support from local favorites Melted Toys - who are currently working on new material with Girls’ Chet “JR” White, and Permanent Collection – the new project of former Young Prisms guitarist Jason Hendardy. It’s a bargain of a show. $3. Three Dollars. That’s right, THREE. It’s a bangin’ bang for your buck, so you shouldn’t miss it. 9PM at The Knockout.

Also See: Mix By Steven Harkins of Melted Toys
For my first piece for the Bay Citizen’s Culture Feed, I wrote about City Limits Records, a new label started by SF bloggers Peter Arko (Ears of the Beholder) and Robert Khoruy (See the Leaves). You’ll have to wait till June, but the first release from the label is a Bay Area-based compilation with tracks from so many rad bands:

Steven Harkins of Melted Toys made us a mix.
Steven Harkins is the lead singer/guitarist of the San Francisco glistening pop-trio Melted Toys. Their Washed & Dried EP (Underwater Peoples) has been the subject of so many blogs, articles, and my own personal record player. The trio’s drum-machine driven sound wavers between Peter Hook-esque bass scales and pseudo-psychedelic neon-guitar notes. Melted Toys played our party with Jonas Reinhardt in early April, and all the kraut-nerds kept asking, “Where did you find these guys?” The mystery of guys begged more questions about their sounds and origins. So we were stoked when they agreed to submit a mix. Harkins explains “I grew up listening to half of these songs when my mom would play her records on Sundays, so they’re very close to my heart. I hope you dig!”

Video: Melted Toys // Come On. Right from the start, this SF band has been garnering praise. Melted Toy’s warm synth-pop tracks are fit for a night out in the foggy city. The trio has got a 12-inch EP Washed & Dried via Underwater Peoples. Check the band out tonight (3/3) at Rickshaw Stop and this Saturday (4/2) at Kitsch Gallery (more info posted here).
