DAMON PALERMO MADE US A MIX. He was on a short break between tours and took some time to make us a mix. Palermo, who is part of bi-coastal Mi Ami (SF/NYC), just finished an East Coast/Midwest/down South tour supporting their new EP, Dolphins. Today, he’s off to NYC for a few days, then to Europe with Mi Ami for another three weeks. They play selected dates with DIVA (Diva Dompé of Pocahaunted), Awesome Tapes From Africa, Battles, and Liturgy. Last Saturday, You may have caught Palermo at the NFR show at Kitsch Gallery playing with Jonas Reinhardt on a drum machine and sampler. We’re stoked on this mix, and we’re sure it’ll get you moving off your seat.

Dolphin double: Mi Ami shifts to aquatic two-piece dynamics on its new EP

boomtownbells:

Last week, I interviewed Daniel Martin-McCormick about Mi Ami’s new release Dolphins for the Bay Guardian. The phone cut off a few times, because he was driving through the midwest to perform as Sex Worker with Psychic Reality and Prince Rama at Oberlin College. (My alma mater, where I attended every show. He said the last time he played at OC was at house part in 2004, which was before my time.)

Mostly, we talked about the band as a bicoastal duo and the new EP. The title song, he explains, is a poignant image: “It’s dolphins begging us to stop, basically everything we’re doing—the oily film of guilt that coats complicity.” They’ve got a new set up, but rest assured Mi Ami prove change isn’t always bad.
