Light Asylum performs at Public Works this Wednesday (5/18) w/ Water Borders & Boyz IV Men.

Last August, Light Asylum played a stint of Bay Area shows, notably at The Eagle Tavern, Milk Bar, East Nile and the Mothertonge festival at the Brookdale Lodge (local support included Jonas Reinhardt, Boyz IV Men, Jealousy, and So Much Fun). What’s happened since? They’ve signed with Mexican Summer who will give the band’s self-released In Tension EP a proper release (June 14, 2011). They’re coming off a tour with Portland’s YACHT to glaze us in laser lights and arpeggiated keys.

Local garage-key electro trio Boyz IV Men will blast things off. Last year’s Sweat LP (Turn Up Records) got the Boyz (for short) a string of big venue shows with acts like Miami Horror, Grum, and Mr. Oizo. Now they have a bunch of new material and plan to go into the studio with Phil Manley (of Trans Am, Jonas Reinhardt, and Fucking Champs) who notably recorded the last Mi Ami EP, Dolphins. Look forward to that.

SF’s Water Borders are Amitai Heller and Loric Sih. The duo play gothed-out witch house jams. Cool thing is that they’re totally normal dudes. Last year, they recorded a track with UK-based Glasser, and this year they performed with Salem at 103 Harriet. I wasn’t there, but I heard it sounded awesome. So look forward to night of exciting local talent and some sweet Light Asylum.

At Public Works, with DJs WhITCH, NAKO, RICHIE PANIC. Advance Tickets are $7, or $10 at the door.

Anyone who went to that last DONUTS! party will tell you how awesome it was. I know because I missed it, and then everyone rubbed it in my face. This time, nothing is going to stand in my way because my FOMO (fear of missing out) is kicking in fully.

This Saturday, DONUTS! comes back with Brooklyn’s Blondes. These two dudes (Sam Haar and Zach Steinman) make fun and housy electronic music. Their EP, Touched (Merok Records) blew them up last year. Since then, they’ve been touring with Simian Mobile Disco and the Juan Maclean. The new 12” Lover/Hate now out RVNG Intl. takes these guys to a different level (video below).

Also, be excited for San Francisco’s Wav Dwgs – one part Eat Tapes (Greg Zifcak) and one part Party Effects (Andre Ferreira), some call it “chill-rave” others call it “lo-fi house” – whatever it is, it’s fun. Ryan Merry’s Ghosts on Tape also play. DJs Pickpocket and Ash Williams will keep you moving.

I heard stories of legendary DJs, bands, up and coming acts, and suguary treats. I always dreamed of making it some day. When I finally moved to the West coast mecca of sweaty dance parties, DONUTS provided a comfort in the form of a sugary sound high.

This Saturday, DONUTS presents LEGOWELT (Netherlands), Miracles Club (Portland) featuring Alexis Blair Penney, Tres Lingerie (SF), and the debut of SF’s Xosar. The heavy hitter line up is sure to bring out the dance dork in you. DJs Pickpocket and Ash Williams will keep the dance party going.
