Song: Royal Baths// “Darling Devine”.

(via pfork) New track by former SF bad kids (now NY) the Royal Baths. Their new record, Better Luck Next Life, will be released on 2/7 via Kanine Records. Most of these tracks were recorded over the summer in Portland’s The Pool Recording Studio. I was lucky enough to be treated to some bedroom listening sessions, and RB have really stepped up the ante for this record. Rumors of a spring tour are in the works so stay tuned!

Premier: Jessica Pratt // “I’ve Got a Feeling”.

Last week, I told Jessica Pratt that her songs feel liked a opiate induced high on a cold rainy day. I’ve a big of of Pratt, and she’s an ever elusive sacred flower here in San Francisco. It’s a very special treat if you ever get to catch her live. She’s recording a new album now, with some very exciting release details to be announced.

Song: Nathan Grice // “Hay Hay I’m out of my mind”.

Nathan Grice is the Mission’s best kept secret. You may recognize Grice as bassist of the Royal Baths, but he’s an amazing song writer all on his own. We lived together for a short bit at Kitsch Gallery. At Kitsch, Grice set up a small studio and recorded for hours on end. Lately, he’s been busy recording some more, and playing small gigs around town. Grice has a few shows coming up in December and January. Be sure to keep your ears open — he has a bounty of great material which I’m sure many of you will enjoy.

The Beets // “Friends of Friends”

There is somethin’ so darling about the Beets; this song really nails its thumping beat and the long meandering narrative, about love, plane crashes, and getting lost, that ends with the refrain “not even all those friends of friends.” When Pedro and I saw the Beets perform on Amnesia’s stage, we got to witness the Queens-based band in all its quick-paced glory. “Friends of Friends” from the band’s third record, “Let the Poison Out,” was recorded, says the band, in two days, with a few overdubs, at Marlborough Farms by Gary Olsen of Ladybug Transistor. The band says that “Let the Poison Out” also marks the addition of Chie Mori, an important component as drummer for the Beets.

Here is a new song by San Francisco’s Pre-Teen. I last caught them open up for Tim Cohen’s Magic Trick a few weeks back. “Make it December” is pretty, gritty, and orchestrated for make out sessions. If you dig this track, make sure to download their EP, which is available for free. They play on October 18th with Tambo Rays, and Baby Talk at Hotel Utah, 8PM, $6.

Ganglians // Sleep

Stereogum premiered the Ganglians’ second released track off the forthcoming album Still Living (08/23 via Lefse Records). It’s with “Sleep” where you can definitely hear the added touches and contributions of producer Robby Moncrieff (Raleigh Moncrief). Moncrieff’s overall fidelity maintains the Ganglians’ weirdness, while singer Ryan Grubbs upped the Ganglians’ sound with keyboard textures, samples of bottle rockets launching, and plenty of “waves of analog” - this track definitely has a playful and rebellious feel. What’s next for the Ganglians? Maybe some tour dates?

Ganglians // Sleep

Stereogum premiered the Ganglians’ second released track off the forthcoming album Still Living (08/23 via Lefse Records). It’s with “Sleep” where you can definitely hear the added touches and contributions of producer Robby Moncrieff (Raleigh Moncrief).
