A TINT MIX FOR NIGHT FOG READER.  Zane Morris, the dude behind Tint made us a mix! Several months ago I started bugging Morris to give us some of his home recordings. We were given permission to post some of these little jammers, some of which mush up soul samples, field recordings, drum machines, and his own instrumentation/vocals. The sounds are mind altering, and this mix is no different. Here is a joyful ride of pop, guitars riding on rhythm, chill jams, and a little something to leave you on a high note.  Tint plays this Sunday at the Hemlock Tavern with Part Time (7’’ record release party via Loglady Records) and Permanent Collection. 9PM, $6.

BURNT ONES MADE US A MIX.
Does music get you high? Well, there’s no avoiding this contact high. It’s been an insane year for San Francisco’s Burnt Ones: one 7inch, one critically acclaimed LP (available via Roaring Colonel Records), NPR fan fare, and a second LP on the way (they hit the studio for LP2 this week). Somewhere between eating burritos, playing shows, burnt laptops (no joke), and DJing at Pops, Mark Tester (singer/guitarist) put together a mix for us. We’re stoked on it, and hope you dig it.

WET ILLUSTRATED MADE US A MIX.
These dudes are all the buzz these days (their album 1x1x1 dropped via True Panther Sounds today). Robbie Simon (drums/vocals), Tim Hellman (guitar), Chrys Nodal (guitar), and Will Ivy (bass) pack all their weirdness into brilliantly explosive jams, so I was stoked that we were able to get a mix from them. Here is a compilation of 16 tracks they love “in NO particular order.” Hope you dig it.

NFR02: Fallout // Night Fog Reader’s fall mixtape.
This mix is about summer’s fallout, the season of fall. The actions we’ve made always seem to catch up with us. Good and bad decisions - the fall always has a way of reminding us of summer. That babe you kissed, new friends, the bridge you burned, that really crazy party where you got weird. Nature shows it too: the air turns brisk,  rivers slow down, but we also get a new harvest, and brilliant colored foliage.
Another element of this mix has to do with the weather. East coast friends always mention how the real summer exists on their end of the continent. What is San Francisco’s fall like? Well, it’s like summer, again, we simply call it “Indian Summer.” All the while, the east coast can keep its the proper seasons.
So here is a mix about duality: Fallouts and the California Indian summer.

A MALTED MIX FOR NIGHT FOG READER.
Corey Cunningham and Phil Benson of Terry Malts made us a mix! The San Francisco three-piece have been shredding up the local circuit for about a year. I’m Neurotic, the 7inch that dropped last April via Slumberland Records shows off the Malts’ scuzzy, loud, and catchy brilliance. I’ve been a personal fan these two music aficionados for years, so this mix comes as a special treat.

CARLETTA SUE KAY MADE US A MIX.
Carletta Sue Kay’s honest and heart pulling sounds are a local favorite. This mix is intimate, like a mix to your friend-crush, and is revealing of CSK’s gentle side. What’s on CSK’s plate? Word on the street is that a guest recording session is scheduled for the end of the month. We’re told that, “[Carletta Sue Kay] was asked to record with an indie hero known for his 69 love songs.”

NU-JACK OF JOCK JAMS MADE US A MIX.
DJ NU-JACK a.k.a., Jackson Scarlett made us a mix in anticipation of this Saturday’s (7/30) JOCK JAMS at The Elbo Room! The jams will surely be in full effect. JOCK JAMS not only plans to debut their 90s hip house, RnB, and New Jack Swing party to the Elbo Room, they’re also bringing ARABIAN PRINCE. Wait, who? Thee Arabian Prince, you know, from N.W.A! Backing AP will be DJ Thirftylips. The party will be off the hook. Okay, now about the mix. NU-JACK threw in a bunch of vinyl cuts to create a short mega-mix.  In his words:
“There’s some old Dre/Yella/Egyptian Lover in there as well but mostly a shitload of Arabian Prince, and affiliated projects (Uknown DJ, JJ Fad, etc). It’s all vinyl and I’m cutting pretty fast going for a mega-mix type vibe…”

Anthony Atlas of Nodzzz made us a mix! Gaga for Jojo is a compilation of Jonathan Richman tunes.
Last week I drunkenly asked Anthony Atlas of Nodzzz to contribute a mix for Night Fog Reader. I got an email from Atlas the next morning asking, “do you remember asking me for a mix last night?” I actually did, and was even more excited when he said he wanted to put together a collection of Jonathan Richman songs in honor of his upcoming shows at The Make-Out Room – it’s almost too perfect. I’ll let Atlas explain the rest:
"Rather than compile an array of songs from disparate artists, I thought I’d make a short selection spanning the career of one of my favorite songwriters, Jonathan Richman. His 30-plus year devotion to making this music inspires awe, and in my case, slight obsession. The mix then is arbitrarily brief, merely a sampling of songs I tend to have stuck in my head most often, or tunes I feel are his most poignant. A further attempt to describe what he does would be dubious. The most exciting thing would be to see him at the Make Out Room next week. Three nights by San Francisco’s own Jonathan Richman." - Anthony Atlas
Jonathan Richman will perform at the Make-Out Room next week on July 12, 13, & 14. Details can be found here.
